The Problem

Aranya Finance sourced personal loans through a third-party app and a field sales team. Applications arrived as PDF bank statements and photographed documents, KYC was checked by hand, decisions took 2 to 4 days, and about 60% of applicants dropped off before disbursal. Under the RBI's digital lending rules, Aranya was answerable for every screen, fee and data point the borrower saw.

Our Solution

We designed Tarang, Aranya's own lending app and web console: a mobile-first borrower journey from sign-up to disbursal and repayment, and a staff console where analysts see the engine's decision, the evidence behind it and the rules that referred it. The staff console is built as a clickable demo on a production UI kit.

The Challenge: Minutes to Decide, Every Rule Followed

An instant personal loan in India runs through PAN and Aadhaar checks, credit bureaus, the Account Aggregator network, e-sign and NPCI mandates. The lender is responsible for all of it, and the borrower expects money in minutes.

Drop-Off Between Upload and Sanction

Most applicants were lost between document upload and sanction. The journey had to replace PDFs and photos with consented data pulls so a decision arrives while the borrower is still in the app.

Disclosures Right by Design

The Key Fact Statement must show the APR, all-inclusive cost, schedule, fees, a 3-day cooling-off period and the grievance officer before signing. A fee not in the KFS cannot be charged, and penal charges must be flat, not added to the rate.

KYC Paths With Different Limits

Aadhaar OTP e-KYC, DigiLocker and Video KYC each have their own rules, and loans on OTP e-KYC alone are generally capped, so larger loans need a stronger path. Aadhaar numbers may only be stored masked or tokenised.

Consent and Minimal Phone Data

Under the DPDP Act every consent needs a clear purpose and an easy withdrawal. The app may not read contacts, call logs or media, and bank data comes through an Account Aggregator consent artefact with a stated purpose and retention.

Our Approach: From Spec to Clickable Console

01

Spec and Rules Research

Mapped 10 roles, from borrower and credit analyst to Video KYC agent, grievance officer and DPO, and specified 49 screens across the staff console, the borrower app and a public disclosures page. Wrote down the RBI digital lending, KYC and penal charges rules, the DPDP Act, Account Aggregator and NPCI mandate rules, and a data model for applications, decisions, consents and loans.

02

Clickable Demo on a Production UI Kit

Built the five key staff screens on a production dashboard kit: a funnel dashboard, the applications list with stage filters and a quick view, the application detail with decision, bureau, bank data, KYC and documents tabs, the review queue with SLA tracking, and the review workspace where analysts approve, approve lower, decline or request information with a fixed reason list.

03

What a Production Build Adds

The borrower app for Android and iOS, and live integrations: PAN verification, Aadhaar e-KYC through a KUA with an Aadhaar Data Vault, DigiLocker, Video KYC, CKYCR, credit bureaus, an Account Aggregator, penny drop, Aadhaar eSign with e-stamping, UPI AutoPay and e-NACH, and payout APIs, plus staff sign-in by role and a full audit log of every decision.

Why It Works: The Lender Stays in Control

Every Decision Explains Itself

Each application records the rule set and model version used, the result of every rule with its threshold, and whether the engine or a named person decided. Referral reasons appear as plain chips such as Face match 81% or Shared device.

Approval Limits Built Into the Flow

Analysts see their own limit in the console. When an amount is above it, the action becomes a referral to the credit manager instead of relying on people to remember the policy.

A Queue Run Against a Clock

Referred applications carry a 30-minute review target in business hours. The queue shows who owns each case, how long it has waited and which ones have breached, so borrowers are not left waiting for days.

Offer Maths the Borrower Can Trust

Offers respect product limits, income multiples and FOIR caps, and every offer shows EMI, processing fee plus GST, net amount disbursed and APR, the same figures that go into the Key Fact Statement.
