Policy Administration Console for an Italian Insurer
Designed and built a clickable policy administration console for an Italian motor and home insurer: every policy with its versions, coverages, taxes and bonus-malus class, and an endorsement workbench that works out the pro-rata premium per coverage and checks the approver's authority before a change goes through.
Most of our work is under NDA. Per agreement, we can share the work but not the company details - all names and identifying information shown here have been changed.
Dashboard, policy list, policy detail with up to 8 tabs, the endorsements queue and the endorsement workbench. All 25 demo policies and 16 endorsements open their own page.
Premium change within the approver's limit, backdating within their limit, senior approval past 30 days backdated, and no approving your own request. Approve stays disabled until all four pass.
Old and new annual premium per coverage over the days left to expiry, with taxes on the difference, provincial tax and SSN for RC Auto, and extra premiums under €5.00 waived.
16 motor and 9 home policies, 16 endorsements, 24 policyholders, 9 intermediaries, 3 products and 11 coverages, in euro with Italian dates and document names.
Corvalta ran motor and home on two legacy systems from the early 2000s. Every product or rate change was a development ticket, so a new motor tariff took about four months to reach its roughly 420 agencies. Mid-term changes were keyed by hand at head office from agency emails and priced on a spreadsheet, instalments collected at agencies were reconciled weeks later, and around 3% of RC Auto renewal notices went out with the wrong bonus-malus class.
Ormeggio holds every policy from issue until it lapses or is cancelled, with each change kept as a new version. Administrators see coverages, taxes, instalments, documents and the bonus-malus class in one place, and process endorsements in a workbench that prices the change pro-rata, lists the documents it produces and routes it to the right approver.
Personal lines in Italy are supervised by IVASS under the Codice delle Assicurazioni Private, and motor liability is compulsory. Each policy carries rules about classes, taxes, documents and renewal that change by line, by province and by what has already happened to it.
RC Auto premiums depend on a merit class on the universal scale from 1 to 18, read from the electronic attestato di rischio held by ANIA. Families can inherit the best class in the household under the Bersani rules, and the legal basis has to be recorded.
A new vehicle, driver or coverage changes the premium for the rest of the term. Each coverage carries its own tax: premium tax by line, plus provincial tax and the SSN contribution on RC Auto, so the difference cannot be worked out on one rate.
Motor policies do not roll over: the insurer sends the renewal premium in advance and cover generally continues for 15 days after expiry. Home policies may renew tacitly if the contract says so, so the two lines need different handling.
Every policy must link to the exact DIP, DIP aggiuntivo and conditions the customer received, in Italian. Instalments come by SEPA direct debit, card, bank transfer or cash at the agency, and the codice fiscale may only be shown to roles that need it.
Mapped 11 roles from policy administrator to agent and policyholder, 44 screens across the staff console, agent view and policyholder links, and the data model for products, versions, policies, bonus-malus, endorsements, cancellations, renewal runs, instalments, SEPA mandates, refunds, commissions and documents. Wrote down the rules the design follows: the CAP, IVASS Regulations 40/2018 and 41/2018, RC Auto and the attestato di rischio, premium taxes, RUI checks, SEPA Core Direct Debit, GDPR and the Italian Privacy Code.
Built 5 key screens on a production dashboard kit: the dashboard with KPIs, role work queues and weekly policy movements, the policy list with status filters and a quick view, policy detail with versions, coverages, bonus-malus and premium breakdown plus cancel, suspend and reinstate panels, the endorsements queue, and the endorsement workbench with live pro-rata, settlement choice and an authority check. All actions run on local state.
Integration with the ANIA attestato database, Infocar or Eurotax vehicle data, Agenzia delle Entrate checks, SEPA via a partner bank on the CBI network, Nexi card payments, Namirial or InfoCert e-signature, PEC for formal notices, document generation and SAP S/4HANA. Staff auth by role, a full audit trail of every change, and the remaining screens: issue from quote, renewal runs, billing, distribution, products, compliance, reports, settings, the agent view and policyholder links.
Issue, renewal, endorsement, suspension and cancellation each add a version to the policy. A version rail shows the policy as it stood at any point, and two versions can be compared side by side.
The workbench shows old and new annual premium per coverage, the pro-rata amount, taxes on the difference and the total to collect or refund, recalculated as coverages are switched on or off. The rule is printed under the table.
The signed-in user's limits sit in the sidebar and on every endorsement. A change backdated past the approver's limit cannot be approved by them, and bulk approval is only offered for data corrections with no premium change.
A vehicle substitution keeps the class CU on the new vehicle, inherited classes record the household link and legal basis, and the policy list and dashboard flag RC Auto renewals in their 15-day grace period.

Replaced fragmented policy spreadsheets and disconnected claims tools with a unified AI-driven workspace, designed and shipped in 8 weeks via clickable AI prototype.

Designed and built a clickable claims intake console for a UK motor and home insurer: AI reads the customer's story and photos, extracts the facts, drafts a damage estimate and suggests a triage route with its reasons, while a named person confirms cover, routes the claim and makes every call that could go against the customer.
