Loan Origination Platform for a UK SME Lender
A loan origination platform for Harbour Capital, a UK digital lender offering £25,000 to £500,000 term loans to small businesses - one workspace for applications, KYB and KYC, open banking and bureau data, underwriting, credit committee, offers and funding.
Most of our work is under NDA. Per agreement, we can share the work but not the company details - all names and identifying information shown here have been changed.
Dashboard, pipeline board and table, application detail, underwriting queue and credit workbench, running on local state from submission to decision.
Months trading, DSCR with a +3% stress test, loan to turnover, bureau score, CCJs, returned direct debits and excluded SIC codes, each shown as value against threshold with pass, refer or fail.
An underwriter decides alone up to £150k. Above it, the decision button becomes Refer to senior or Send to committee.
29 UK businesses across limited companies, an LLP, a sole trader and a partnership, 5 brokers, 3 versioned products and a risk pricing grid for grades A to E.
Harbour Capital's credit team assessed applications across email, a shared drive, bureau websites and spreadsheets. Underwriters re-keyed the same company details into four tools, bank statements arrived as PDFs, and nobody could say at a glance which deals were stuck or why. Decisions took 9 to 15 working days, and brokers took their best deals to faster lenders.
We designed Lendwell, one origination platform from first enquiry to money in the borrower's account, and built a clickable demo of its core: a pipeline that shows where every deal is and how long it has been there, an application record that holds every check, and a credit workbench that puts the evidence beside the credit paper.
An SME loan passes through relationship managers, underwriters, senior underwriters, a credit committee, compliance and operations before any money moves. Each needs different data, and every step has rules it cannot skip.
Companies House data, bank statements, bureau reports and identity checks all arrived separately. Underwriters re-keyed the same details and had no single record of what they had seen.
Every person can approve only up to their own limit. Larger deals go to a senior underwriter or a credit committee vote, and the record must show who decided, their mandate, the data they saw and their reasons.
Lending to limited companies is generally outside consumer credit regulation, but lending of £25,000 or less to sole traders and small partnerships is regulated under the Consumer Credit Act. Those deals must be spotted and routed to the regulated journey.
The business and its persons with significant control must be verified and screened for PEPs under the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 and against sanctions under the UK regime (OFSI). Directors' and guarantors' data falls under UK GDPR, so bureau searches need a lawful basis and a privacy notice.
Mapped nine roles, from relationship manager to credit committee member and broker, and wrote the spec for 34 screens: 28 for staff, 3 for brokers and 3 for borrowers. Defined the data model for applications, documents, open banking, bureau reports, checks and screening hits, and the UK lending rules the design must follow.
Built the core credit journey on a production dashboard kit: the dashboard with pipeline by stage and a role-based My work list, the pipeline board and table, the application detail with seven tabs, the underwriting queue, and the credit workbench. Cards only move forward when the stage's entry checks pass, and the refusal says why.
Live integrations for Companies House, open banking, commercial and personal bureaus, sanctions and PEP screening, identity checks, e-signature, payouts and Direct Debit. Plus staff sign-in with roles and mandates, a tamper-evident audit log, credit committee voting, offers, two-person fund release, the loan book, and the broker and borrower portals.
Every card shows days in stage, amber after 3 working days and red after 5, and the dashboard highlights stages over their target age. The question 'which deals are stuck and why' has an answer on the first screen.
The credit workbench splits the screen: scorecard, policy rules, affordability, bank and bureau data on the left, the credit paper on the right. Adjusted figures need a reason and are logged.
The mandate check turns the decision button into a referral when a deal is above the user's limit, and applications cannot skip a stage or move backwards. The rules live in the product, not in people's memory.
An application from a sole trader or partnership at £25,000 or less carries a regulated flag on its record, so the consumer credit journey is never missed.

Designed and built a clickable back-office console for a Singapore bank's deposit operations: holds and blocks, limit changes, fee waivers, payment repairs and end-of-day, with every money-moving change going through maker-checker approval.

An onboarding platform for an Irish digital bank: applicants open a EUR current account from their phone with ID and selfie liveness checks, and a staff console lets onboarding and financial crime teams review the cases the rules cannot decide, through to an issued Irish IBAN.
