Bhitti - Site Project Management Platform with Critical Path and Variation Control

Site Project Management for a Dhaka General Contractor

Designed and built a clickable site project management platform for a Dhaka general contractor running 12 live residential and school sites: a portfolio dashboard with site health, a master programme with critical path and baselines, the daily site diary, and a variations register that routes every change to the right approver by limit.

Impact

5 Screens
Clickable end to end

Portfolio dashboard, master programme with Gantt and critical path, site diary, variations register and variation detail with its cost build-up and approval chain.

3 Levels
Variation approval limits

Project manager up to BDT 5,00,000, project director up to BDT 25,00,000 and managing director above that. Each variation shows the chain it needs and whose turn it is.

48 Hours
Emergency write-up rule

Work started before client approval is flagged on the register and the dashboard once 48 hours pass without a written variation, as Kashbon's contract terms require.

12 Sites
Realistic demo data

12 live projects across Dhaka, Gazipur, Savar and Narayanganj, 13 staff users, 29 scheduled activities with dependencies and 3 baselines, 30 daily logs for September and 14 variations.

The Problem

Kashbon's project managers ran each site from a Microsoft Project file on one laptop, a paper site diary, WhatsApp groups of photos and a shared drive of drawings where nobody was sure which revision was current. Labour counts were phoned in every evening and typed into Excel, variations were agreed verbally on site and fought over at final account, and the directors could not see on one screen which of the 12 sites were late, over budget or waiting on the client.

Our Solution

Bhitti gives Kashbon one platform from the master programme to the final account. Directors see every site's schedule, cost and paperwork health on one dashboard, project managers run the programme with its critical path and baselines, site diaries are submitted and signed off daily, and every variation is priced, approved by limit and sent to the client before work starts.

The Challenge: Twelve Sites, One Version of the Truth

A Bangladeshi general contractor works under the national building code, local planning authorities, labour law and each client's contract at the same time, with site teams in the field, a head office in Dhaka and consultants who answer on their own schedule.

No Portfolio View

Each programme lived in its own file and each site reported in its own way. Nobody could compare planned against actual progress, schedule variance, cost variance and open RFIs across all 12 sites without asking each project manager.

Variations Agreed by Word of Mouth

Kashbon's contract terms need written client approval before a variation starts, and an emergency must be written up within 48 hours. Internal approval also depends on value, so a change has to reach the project manager, project director or managing director by its total.

Daily Records That Must Hold Up

The Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 and Labour Rules 2015 call for attendance and working-hour records, and BNBC 2020 sets duties for site safety. The diary has to capture labour by trade and subcontractor, weather, deliveries, visitors and safety observations, and stay fixed once signed off.

A Programme Nobody Trusted

Progress was reported loosely, so the critical path, float and forecast finish were guesses. The monsoon from June to September cuts working hours, and every approved time extension has to move the programme and the contract completion date.

Our Approach: From Site Practice to a Clickable Platform

01

Spec and Rules Research

Mapped 12 roles across head office, site and the client and consultant portal, 48 screens across the web console, an offline-first site app and the portal, and the data model for projects, contracts, activities, baselines, daily logs, RFIs, submittals, drawings, variations, claims and audit. Wrote down the rules the design follows: BNBC 2020, RAJUK plan approval, the Labour Act and Rules, personal data protection, public procurement for school projects, VAT and tax lines on claims, and Kashbon's own retention and approval limits.

02

Clickable Demo on a Production UI Kit

Built 5 key screens on a production dashboard kit: the dashboard with KPIs, a project health table, a schematic site map and certified vs planned cash flow; the master programme with WBS, Gantt, FS and SS dependencies, baselines and an activity panel; the site diary with a month strip and sign-off; and the variations register and detail with cost build-up, time impact and approval chain. Money uses lakh and crore grouping, and all actions run on local state.

03

What a Production Build Adds

The offline-first Android and iOS site app, the client and consultant portal, and the remaining console screens for RFIs, submittals, drawings, procurement, claims and cost. Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project import, Google Maps, OpenWeather, SSL Wireless SMS, Firebase push, Amazon S3, Tally Prime export and optional DocuSign. Staff auth by role, an append-only audit log, full Bengali text and legal review of the labour and data protection rules.

Why It Works: Every Site Visible, Every Change on Record

Health in Green, Amber and Red

Each project row colours planned vs actual, SPI, schedule variance, cost variance and the last daily log, so a director scans 12 sites in seconds. Needs attention lists late critical activities, overdue RFIs, missing logs, short deliveries and overdue emergency write-ups, each linked to its page.

The Critical Path in Plain Sight

The Gantt shows baseline in grey, current in blue and critical in red, with float, data date, contract completion and monsoon shading. Opening an activity shows its finish variance, predecessors, successors and the progress history reported from site and accepted by the project manager.

A Diary That Locks When Signed

The month strip marks each day reviewed, submitted, missing or Friday off. Once the project manager signs off a log, later changes by the site engineer are kept as amendments with the old value, the new value and a reason.

Approvals Matched to Value

A variation shows its cost build-up by contract rate, new rate or daywork with 10% overhead and profit, the days it adds to the programme and the forecast finish. The approval chain lists each step by limit, and the director can only approve within their own limit.
